It's really common for the old rubber boots and seals to be cracked or completely disintegrated after thousands of shifts and many years of heat.

Did you know there are 2 rubber boots that are often cracked and worn out?
The rubber isolator boot that's under the OEM console is there to keep heat and exhaust fumes out of the cabin.
The rubber boot between the shifter and the top of the transmission turret is there to keep oil inside of the trans turret and keep dust and dirt out.

No, you are not getting a shift lever with the kit. You use your existing Mazda OEM shifter lever.
It's shown in the 4th photo as an example so that you know you've got the right kit for 90-97 Miata 5 Speed.
